Green Jobs Surge as India Accelerates Renewable Energy Adoption

India is witnessing a surge in green jobs as it intensifies efforts to adopt renewable energy, reports The Economic Times. The country is a global leader in installed solar and wind energy capacity, as noted by the International Renewable Energy Agency. At COP26 in 2021, India pledged to reduce emissions by one billion tonnes, generate half of its electricity from renewables, and reach a capacity of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel electricity by 2030.

This ambitious agenda has spurred hiring in the solar energy sector. AdSolar, for instance, currently employs about 2,500 people in operations, maintenance, and support roles, and plans to create over 13,000 jobs at its solar manufacturing hub in Gujarat. Similarly, Tata Solar Power employs around 1,000 individuals and is expected to increase its workforce in the coming years. Vikram Solar in Kolkata and Emvee in Bengaluru collectively employ hundreds of professionals across various functions.

The report also highlights that India has the potential to generate 35 million green jobs by 2047, demonstrating the significant employment opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
